Information
Rarity: Common
Size
It's not a large snake growing up to a maximum size of 95 cm long, although usually they reach around 85 cm. The females are usually larger then the males.
Venom
The Horned nosed viper is the most venomous snake in Europe. Bites usually produce dramatic swelling and can sometimes be fatal without anti venom. People died regularly before the anti venom was made. Fortunately they are very calm and will very rarely bite.
Habitat
it inhabits dry, rocky hillsides with sparse vegetation. Not usually associated with woodlands, but if so it will be found there around the edges and in clearings. Sometimes found in areas of human habitation, such as railway embankments, farmland, and especially vineyards if rubble piles and stone walls are present.
Diet
They mainly feed on birds and small mammals but will also sometimes eat reptiles including other snakes.
Breeding
Females usually produce 4-15 young that are around 15-20 cm long. They breed at April to June.
