Size
The Sand Boa Is a small snake growing up to a maximum size of 85 cm long. It's usually around 75 cm though.
Venom
It's a non venomous species and does not bite.
Habitat
It's the rarest snake species in Bulgaria and is found in dry habitats, usually with a good covering of light soil or sand, such as dry beaches, arable land and rocky areas. Spends most of it's time in rodents burrows. It's nocturnal but may be diurnal in spring and autumn.
Diet
Mainly feeds on small rodents but will also eat lizards, big insects and slugs. Larger animals are constricted before being swallowed. Apparently it hunts in mammal burrows but sometimes lies beneath the surface and waits for passing pray.
Breeding
Females produce 6-20 live young, around 15 cm long.
